Council funding pot enables range of holiday activities

-

A range of holiday activities have been run in Fife thanks to a five-figure council funding pot.

Members of the south-west Fife area committee were given an update on the community plan holiday fund where £20,000 was set aside for those who run schemes to make bids.

Over the summer, 105 learners and 184 participants took part in community-based learning across the south west of the region.

A total of 97 people attended job clubs run in the area and 135 people attended various youth activities.

South East Inverkeithing regeneration peer mentor programme recruited volunteers to support youngsters through the upheaval of Fraser Avenue regeneration.

A diversity group was set up to build communication channels with people in minority groups and is collating stories for a book.

The Dads & Lads Project encouraged men to take up learning opportunities and a variety of family learning fun days were operated.

Chairman Bobby Clelland praised the positive impact that the council funding has made.

He said: “These schemes are important, they give families a chance to be involved and learn together. Giving children the opportunity to try new things gives them valuable new experiences, broadens their minds and can raise their expectations.”

Area committee chairman Alice Callaghan applauded the work done in attracting parents to other learning chances

She told the team: “The fun days themselves are brilliant. What you are doing there is first class and more power to your elbow.”
