The Glasgow bomb tragedy was the principal case before Glasgow High Court. Lord Mackenzie presided. James O’Hara, discharged soldier, was charged with throwing a hand grenade into a back court at 122 Sister Street, Calton, Glasgow on the night of Septemeber 9, causing the death of three persons and serious injuries to eight others, Mr Mcgregor Mitchell, for the defence, said he had entered a plea of insanity. Dr Henry Carre of Woodilee Asylum, said he thought O’Hara was of unsound mind.

Gulabin Lodge, Dundee Ski Centre’s new venture at the Spittal of Glenshee, will be ready for its official opening in the first week of December. Miss Estelle Haddy said that last night in her report on the lodge at the club’s annual general meeting in the Angus Hotel. The club purchased the lodge for £5,741 and extensive alteration­s have been carried out inside the lodge, much of the work being done by club members. The ground floor has been enlarged and will be used for functions.

Listed buildings in and around Dundee are falling into ruin through vandalism and the elements, according to Historic Scotland’s latest “Buildings at Risk” bulletin. The bulletin, which catalogues historic Scottish buildings in need of rescue and repair, lists Baldovan House at Strathmart­ine, Tealing House at Kirkton of Tealing and a pair of houses at 152-154 Perth Road, as four in urgent need of restoratio­n. All are for sale. A mid-18th Century farm at Meigle is also highlighte­d.

Translatio­n services for foreign accused and witnesses in Tayside and Fife are costing the public purse £147,000 a year. An investigat­ion has revealed the cost of translatio­n services in Courier Country courts has shot up by nearly £60,000 in the past year. The Scottish Court Service blamed the rise on increased reporting and detection of crimes and said that in addition Dundee and Forfar programme business was previously heard at Cupar and Arbroath courts, now closed.
