Grove lose out after double by Christie

-

Kelburne bested GROVE MENZIESHILL in the clash of the expected top two, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

It was 1-1 at half time, with Hamish Galt having equalised an early Kelburne goal.

Jonny Christie turned the match with two goals early in the second period. That effectively sealed the points, despite a late penalty by Ciaran Crawford.

Kelburne and Watsonians lead the way after the Edinburgh side’s surprise 7-6 loss to Hillhead.

Grange kept in the mix with a substantial win over Clydesdale.

ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY remain second in division 2 behind Granite City Wanderers, both having won against teams from the lower half of the table.

DUNDEE WANDERERS could have moved to third had they defeated Stepps but, despite another hat-trick by Bobby Ralph and a single by Fergus Sandison, they had to settle for a 4-4 draw.

Wanderers will consider that two points dropped as they trail the leaders by seven with a game in hand, but they did recover well after conceding two early goals.

The trauma for HARRIS continues with a 10-2 defeat to DUNFERMLINE CARNEGIE.

They then collected their first win against Glasgow University. Twice they went behind and twice they levelled, through Euan Donohue and Fergus Wilson.

They then took the lead, Wilson grabbing his second, but this time Glasgow drew back level.

Pete black netted a late penalty corner to give Harris three points.

DUNDEE UNIVERSITY may also have turned the corner with a single-goal victory away to Greenock.

PERTHSHIRE will probably be reasonably content with their draw away to Highland, keeping them third in division 3.

MONARCHS cannot be pleased with a 4-0 defeat to Erskine Stewart’s Melville, which leaves them firmly in the lower half.

MENZIESHILL II maintained their 100% record after three games in Central Division 1. Dave Petrie, Gregor Reid, Kyle Moir and Lewis McKenzie all scored.

WANDERERS II lost their postponed District Cup match to Inverleith II. However, they are in the plate, hosting Fidra Lions on October 29.
