Mixed fortunes for premier league duo

-

Dundee’s premier league duo had mixed results at the weekend, writes our women’s hockey correspondent.

GROVE MENZIESHILL’s 4-0 win over Hillhead kept them on station as joint leaders courtesy of Ailsa Wyllie (2), Katie Stott and Lauren Kingston.

Early and late goals for Erskine Stewart’s Melville combined with patchy finishing left MJV WANDERERS languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Robyn Henderson netted early for the visitors before Amy Snelle restored parity. Chances went begging until Vikki Bunce nudged Wanderers ahead, but they conceded a soft equaliser after a counter-attack found Catriona Dunn unmarked to pick her spot.

Meanwhile, Clydesdale Western dug deep to inflict a first defeat and grab all three points from defending champions Edinburgh University.

DUNDEE UNIVERSITY and ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY slipped up against GHK and Merlins Gordonians in division 2, while their reserve teams were also on the wrong side of results in Championship B.

In Championship A Ellie Stott gave GROVE II the lead against Aberdeen University, but the students ran out 3-1 winners.

KINROSS, who lost 2-0 to Edinburgh University III on Friday night, returned to face Waverley in the capital on Sunday. Reduced to 10 players through injury, they were edged out 4-3 with Lynn Jack (2) and Jo Eccles on target.

A third straight win for MADRAS FP ensured top spot in pool B of the Midland League Cup.

Jade Milne added a hat-trick to Emma Malcolm’s single before a late strike from Eva Innes wrapped up a 5-0 victory over Blairgowrie.

Anne Pedgrift, Kylie Shields and Kim Nicholson did the needful for MONARCHS over PERTHSHIRE III in pool A.

Pitch flooding was responsible for the cancellation of home games for KINROSS and BRECHIN THISTLES.
