Brechin defeat sees Kinnoull lead way

-

It’s all change once more in the North League as Kirriemuir’s Scottish Junior Cup commitments have seen them drop to fourth place.

Kinnoull are now top of the pile after a 3-1 victory at Tulloch Park against Brechin Vics.

The scores were level at the break but it was Kinnoull who went in front just before the hour mark when Kieran Donald rifled the ball home, through a crowd of players, from an Allan Ferguson cross.

Three minutes later and Kinnoull were two in front, Robbie Norrie controlling well before slipping the ball home.

Rhys Davies came off the bench to score his customary goal on 68 minutes, tapping home another Allan Ferguson cross.

Ryan Young managed to pull a goal back for Charlie King’s Brechin on 72 minutes, but it was too little too late for the visitors.

Kinnoull’s Tom Whyte was sent off for two harsh bookings in the dying stages to take a little of the gloss off the victory.

Lochee Harp’s Beechwood Park appears to be the place to go as once more spectators saw seven goals as the home side beat Arbroath Vics 4-3.

Harp took the lead on 25 minutes when Graham Allen volleyed home from outside the box.

Cammy McMahon doubled the Harp advantage after 32 minutes but Vics were in no mood to lie down and by the break had netted goals from Ryan Lewis, Gary Warren and Marc Walker.

Harp boss Michael Gormley made two changes at the break, bringing on Mark Kelly and Ryan McKillen, with both players having a hand in Lochee’s secondhalf comeback.

Kelly saw his penalty saved on 52 minutes after Derryn Kesson had been brought down.

But when Frankie Mullen was pulled back in the box on 78 minutes, Allan took over from the spot and equalised for his side.

The Harp winner came with just two minutes to go and it was a heartbreaker for Vics as a back-pass bobbled in front of the keeper, who had an excellent game, and went into the net.

The game between Forfar Albion and Dundee East Craigie was postponed.

Scone Thistle are only one win off the leading pack after their 6-0 demolition of Newburgh at East Shore Park.

Craig Mitchell put the Perth side in front with just seven minutes gone.

Abi Njie made it two after 27 minutes.

Six minutes later and Kevin Sinclair made it 3-0.

Fraser Mills scored a fourth just before the break.

Mills then went on to complete his hat-trick with goals after 60 and 77 minutes, completing a strong performance for Scone who are on a decent run of results.
