Brechin move into third after impressive victory

-

BRECHIN CITY 3 AIRDRIEONIANS 0

Brechin City staged their own version of the late show last night when, in a game which finished at 10.45pm, they thumped promotion rivals Airdrieonians 3-0 to go above the Lanarkshire side and into the League One play-off places.

The kick-off was delayed for more than an hour after half the Brechin squad were caught up in a traffic pile-up due to an accident on the Forth Road Bridge.

Unsurprisingly, Brechin took a long time to get into their stride and Andy Ryan went close with two efforts for the visitors.

Brechin had their first chance on 36 minutes when a drive from Ally Love was heading for the bottom corner until Rohan Ferguson dived to save.

Brechin grabbed the lead a minute into stoppage-time at the break.

Love was fouled by Jordan McGregor and smashed the ball home from the penalty spot.

Airdrie went close on 64 minutes when a shot on the turn from Adam Brown was saved by Graeme Smith.

Brechin made it 2-0 four minutes later. A corner was headed out by the Airdrie defence and Love hammered the ball home from 25 yards.

Airdrie were unlucky on 76 minutes when a shot from Sean McIntosh hit the inside of the post and stayed out.

Brechin wrapped things up four minutes from time. Andy Jackson raced clear on the left, outpaced his marker and shot past the keeper. Attendance: 346.
