The Voice of Stevie McCrorie to headline Methilmusic festival

-

The Voice star Stevie McCrorie is to return to Fife to headline a festival at Bayview Stadium.

The winner of the 2015 series of the BBC talent show has been announced as the top act for Live at Bayview, Last O’ The Grass.

Up to 2,500 music fans are expected to fill the Methil stadium for the festival on May 21.

Other acts announced so far are Eryka, which is fronted by Ryan Fletcher who played Vader in BBC’s River City, Lost in Vancouver, Little Eye, Moonlight Zoo and Nick Mercer Jr.

McCrorie, who was a firefighter in Kirkcaldy before becoming a contestant on The Voice, confirmed the news on Instagram.

He posted: “I will be returning to the glorious kingdom on the 21st of May to perform as the headline act with my band, at a new festival called @liveatbayview

“It’s my first show in Fife, I think this is going to be an amazing day and the start of a great family festival. A lot of brilliant bands are also playing alongside me.”

The musician has returned to duty as a firefighter but continues to play gigs around the country.

Fellow musician Cameron Barnes, one of the organisers of Live at Bayview, said: “Stevie has quite a big following in Fife but has never actually played here so we are really excited.”

Former Red Hot Chilli Piper Cameron was approached by East Fife Football Club to perform with his band Break the Butterfly and took on the job of arranging acts.

He said: “The stadium is built to handle crowds so it’s the perfect venue for an event like this.

“We are hoping the festival will grow and if it is successful it will run every year.”

The festival at the end of the football season will be held before grass is lifted for the installation of a new 3G playing surface.

It will be the last chance for fans to see the grass pitch as work starts the following day with charity Fifers For The Community on installation of the new pitch and other areas for community use.

Festival details can be found on the Live at Bayview Facebook page.
