Outlander group considers way to capitalise on TV success
Lighting trucks and costume departments are now familiar sights to locals when Outlander comes to film in Fife.
But many businesses are also seeing the influence of the popular TV series with visitors from the UK and abroad coming specifically to see where the show was filmed.
The Outlander working group, set up in 2015 by Dunfermline and West Fife Local Tourist Association and including national and local organisations and businesses and now chaired by Linn Williamson, hosted a meeting to discuss the potential around Outlander tourism.
Several Fife businesses are already finding success with Outlander-inspired offers.
Linn, of Grill 48 in Dunfermline, has hosted events for international press with an Outlander-inspired menu.
Meanwhile, Donald Mackenzie of Clan Mackenzie Routes offers location tours and Jenny Thomson of Courses for Cooks has developed Outlander and Scottish-themed cookery courses.
Alistair Bruce, chairman of the Fife Tourism Partnership, said: “Outlander is a huge influence on visitors who are such fans of the show that they often come to Fife more than once. We know that they are usually female over the age of 25 and are passionate and knowledgeable about Scotland and anything connected with the show.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to capitalise on a current tourism trend so the group is collaborating and developing new opportunities, creating marketing materials and sharing each other’s business offers to boost tourism value on all Outlander inspired initiatives.”
