Feel-good factor to fore at Parkhead

-

Brendan Rodgers’ new deal as CELTIC boss has kept the feelgood factor going at Parkhead, according to James Forrest.

The Northern Irishman arrived in Glasgow on a one-year rolling contract last summer but on Friday, less than a week after clinching the club’s sixth successive Ladbrokes Premiership title, he signed a new deal which keeps him at Parkhead until 2021.

He watched his Hoops side extend their unbeaten domestic run since the start of the season to 39 games with a 3-1 home win over KILMARNOCK on Saturday.

Forrest scored with a header for the first time in his career to make it 3-1.

He pounced in the 76th minute when substitute Moussa Dembele’s shot hit the post.

Killie’s Jordan Jones had earlier levelled Stuart Armstrong’s firsthalf opener, just minutes before Scott Sinclair restored the home side’s lead. Celtic moved to 90 points. With Partick Thistle beating Motherwell at Firhill, Kilmarnock lost out on the chance of a top-six finish.

Interim boss Lee McCulloch had no complaints about the result and said: “It was a great experience for the young boys that are playing weekly, to be playing in front of such a big crowd and against such good players.”

HAMILTON gained a valuable point against ROSS COUNTY on Saturday despite playing the second half with 10 men.

It lifted them out of the relegation play-off spot, albeit on goal difference to Motherwell.

Massimo Donati put Hamilton in the lead before Giannis Skondras was sent off for the hosts by referee Steven McLean after bringing down Ryan Dow, which both managers agreed was the wrong decision.

Craig Curran equalised in the second half.

PARTICK THISTLE booked their place in the Ladbrokes Premiership top six with a 1-0 victory over MOTHERWELL at Firhill. Kris Doolan slotted home a simple goal from Chris Erskine’s low cross in the 11th minute.
