Who releases what on RSD 2017
Record Store Day was established to celebrate independent record shops across the country.
More than 200 stores throughout the UK take part, with special vinyl issues and reissues of songs and albums made exclusively for the day.
Artists as diverse as The Beatles, Diana Ross, the Cocteau Twins and Kate Tempest have released albums celebrating the day, as well as local heroes The View – who are celebrating a 10th anniversary of their own with a rerelease of debut chart-topper Hats Off To The Buskers.
A limited edition picture disc of the well-loved BBC comedy Fawlty Towers has also been released for the event, with two episodes recorded on to vinyl.
One of the most anticipated releases is a previously unheard vinyl of David Bowie performing live in Los Angeles in 1974.
There are three Bowie Record Store Day records being released for the event, as well as the first-ever vinyl pressing of Placebo’s Without You I’m Nothing, featuring vocals from the late singer.
The Beatles rerelease of double A-side Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever is hotly-awaited, alongside a limited edition 12in picture disc of Pink Floyd’s London 1966/1967, originally recorded for Peter Whitehead as part of his legendary 1967 Tonite Lets All Make Love In London film slash semi-documentary about the “swinging London” scene of the 60s.
An exclusive whitelabel reissue of British hip-hop artist Wiley’s Godfather LP will feature on shelves across the UK and recently turned septuagenarian Iggy Pop and his band The Stooges are releasing 1972 album Heavy Liquid, with special liner notes annotated by Iggy Pop Bible author and ex-Mojo editor Paul Trynka.
