ABERDOUR and DALGETY BAY. Janette Smith welcomed members and introduced Brenda Borrows who spoke about genealogy. Competitions: Easter bonnet – H Jamieson; Easter biscuits – M Walters and L Forret.
AUCHTERMUCHTY. President Barbara Acheson welcomed members and visitors from Star WRI then introduced Flora Meldrum who read two very funny poems she had written about the problems encountered when she accompanied her daughter as she bought her wedding dress. Competitions: hree pancakes – 1 P Ridley, 2 J McCaffery; flower of the month – 1 P Ridley, 2 J Syme.
AUCHTERTOOL. Niamh Thomson gave an illustrated talk about her world challenge one-month long trip to Madagascar, where she taught local children and helped with the construction of a nursery. Competitions: empire biscuits – 1 Mrs Thomson, 2 Mrs Templeton; flower of the month – Mrs Ure.
BALMULLO. President Ann Falconer welcomed members and guests and introduced Margaret Watson from Birchwood Cottage, Art Gallery and Tea Room, who spoke about the charity Mary’s Meals, and the work of Birchwood Cottage, the profits of which are donated to Mary’s Meals and Rachel House, Kinross. Competitions: flower of the month – 1 G Baird, 2 A Smart, 3 W Whyte; empire biscuits – 1 G Baird, 2 G Steven, 3 J Normand; Easter card – P Wiles.
BISHOPSHIRE. President Norma Smith welcomed members and introduced Deirdre Munro who gave an illustrated talk about the section of the Fife Coastal Walk from Dysart to Kingsbarns. Competitions: knitted or sewn animal or bird – 1 N Smith and J Gardiner; sandwich for a picnic – 1 J Gardiner.
CRAIGROTHIE. President Joyce MacRae introduced Douglas Watson who gave a talk titled Chocolate: Food of the Gods, before handing out some samples of truffles. Competitions: three Highlanders – 1 M Hall, 2 M Cameron, 3 A Reid; button picture – 1 M Whiteford, 2 L Palmer, 3 M Hall; flower of the month – 1 M Cameron, 2 M Sloan, 3 J Gray.
CARNBO. Mr and Mrs K Allan, with the assistance of Mr E Paterson, gave a fun-filled evening entitled A Butcher’s Life. Competitions: small pot of pate – Frances Drysdale; flower of the month – Barbara Nicol.
DUNDUFF and DISTRICT. President Jean Rogers welcomed members and introduced Sandra Penman, Edinburgh and Fife coordinator for the Heidi’s Heart Pillow Project, who brought samples of the pillows that are used during recovery from breast surgery. Competitions: knitted toy – 1 J Rogers, 2 M Gillespie; jar blackcurrant jam – A Marshall; flower of the month – J Patterson.
FALKLAND. In March, president Mrs I Robertson welcomed members and introduced Pete Shepherd who entertained with traditional songs and tunes. Competitions: Easter bonnet – 1 P Kilbane, 2 E Webster, 3 M Brunton; flower of the month – 1 M Brunton, 2 M Williams, 3 D Leece. At the April meeting, Mrs I Robertson welcomed everyone and introduced Mr Imlay, a retired head teacher, who spoke about his career. Competitions: Easter bonnet – 1 M Brunton, 2 P Kilbane, 3 P Wells; flower of the month – 1 J Young, 2 C Downie, 3 J Williamson.
KETTLE and DISTRICT. Members were entertained by Kennoway WRI, who gave a demonstration of kanzashi, the Japanese art of flower making, recited two poems and presented challenging quizzes. Competitions: lady’s corsage – M Drummond; flower of the month – H Lumsden.
KILMANY. Vice-president Sheila Simmers welcomed members and Balmullo WRI, who organised a quiz and gave a history presentation. Competitions: pin cushion – 1 J Forbes, 2 C Orr; fun competition, thimble – Mrs Young; flower of the month – S Simmers.
KILRENNY. President Jenny Watson welcomed members and introduced Jackie Raitt who sang many well-known songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Competitions: decorated egg – 1 J Squazzin, 2 M Thomson, 3 M Hutchison; flower arrangement in a cup – 1 F Guthrie, 2 M Pert, 3 M Lowrie; flower of the month – 1 M Lowrie, 2 M Thomson, 3 D Muir.
KINROSS. The Ramage Dawson Trophy was won by Glenfarg and the Erskine Trophy for runner-up was awarded to Cleish. Maureen Lambie (Glenfarg) won the Jessie Smith Salver for the best individual performance.
LARGO. Mary Beattie introduced Andrew Brown who spoke about different types of geraniums. Competitions: vegetarian loaf – 1 M Beattie, 2 M Bell, 3 N Carstairs; potted plant – M Beattie; flower of the month – 1 R Stevens, 2 P Scanlon, 3 M Mccormack.
THORNTON. Mrs Nash presided and introduced Rebecca King, who demonstrated how to make a family tree picture and various additions which could be used to enhance it. Competitions: cupcake - 1 Mrs Johnstone 2 Mrs Herd; flower of the month – Mrs Winter. Mrs Buckley and Mrs Gatt provided teas.
