A92 safety concerns cannot be ‘overlooked’ ahead of meeting

-

Safety concerns regarding the A92 at Glenrothes cannot be overlooked, the town’s MSP has said.

Jenny Gilruth, representative for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, has confirmed she will join members of the North Glenrothes Community Council (NGCC) in welcoming transport minister Humza Yousaf to inspect the route later this year.

Mr Yousaf has provided assurances that he will visit the Cadham and Balfarg junctions following a community campaign to upgrade both parts of the trunk road.

He has previously indicated that consideration would be given to the dualling of the A92 in the upcoming review of the Strategic Transport Projects Review.

Ms Gilruth said: “Road safety on the A92 is a real concern in the Mid Fife and Glenrothes constituency, and it’s important that measures are taken to improve the worrying casualty statistics. As one of the main roads in the area, we can’t allow these concerns to be overlooked.

“I am delighted that the transport minister has listened to the concerns raised by local campaigners and look forward to welcoming him to see the issues first-hand.

“I will be contacting North Glenrothes Community Council shortly to find a mutually agreeable date.”

Campaigners from the NGCC have been lobbying the Scottish Government for several years in an effort to upgrade the A92 through the town.

As a trunk road, responsibility for the route belongs to Transport Scotland, a Scottish Government agency.

Despite this, Fife Council has pledged £1.5 million of its funds to assist in any construction of a roundabout at Balfarg.
