Community groups give backing to Just Bin It campaign
Two respected community groups in Burntisland have thrown their weight behind a campaign asking dog owners to do their bit and pick up after their pooches.
Earlier this month, Fife Council’s Just Bin It launched in Burntisland to raise awareness of the dog fouling problem in the area and ask residents to clean up after their dogs.
Now the drive has been given an extra boost after both Burntisland Community Council and Floral Action Burntisland lent their support.
John Bruce, from Burntisland Community Council, said: “Burntisland Community Council are extremely supportive of this campaign and trust it will be a real success, benefiting the whole of Burntisland.”
The local authority’s safer community officers have increased patrols across the town, pledging to hand out fines to anyone not cleaning up after their dog.
A number of hot spots in Burntisland have been identified, namely Burntisland Links, Burntisland Beach, Rossend Point, Toll Park, the footpath behind Burntisland Primary, Rossend Terrace, Meadow Court, Broom Hill Avenue, Haugh Road, Dick Crescent and Kirkcaldy Road.
Dawn Jamieson, team manager for safer communities, explained: “Fife is a beautiful region and we want to keep it that way. We’re working hard to improve the quality of life in our communities.
“We know the majority of residents take a real pride in their area, but we’re targeting a small group of people who act irresponsibly and we’re asking them to ‘Just Bin It’.”
