Nightclub fracas leads to big fine

-

An Irish worker, currently employed on building the new Forth bridge, had what turned out to be an expensive night out in Dunfermline.

Kenneth Collins, who is involved in work on the Queensferry Crossing, was drunk in a nightclub.

And he ended up getting into a fight before causing more trouble when the police arrived.

Collins, 21, of Cahir, Tipperary, ended up in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court where he was hit with a £1,400 fine.

He admitted that on May 7 at St Margaret Street, Dunfermline, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by engaging in a fight, shouted, swore, uttered racially offensive and sectarian remarks, repeatedly threatened to spit at police officers and spat in a police vehicle.

At Dunfermline police station he assaulted a police sergeant by spitting saliva and blood at him.

Defence solicitor John Bain said: “It’s a very unpleasant set of circumstances he’s got himself into.

“He had been drinking from 5pm to 2am when he was at Lourenzo’s but has little recollection of it. He’s extremely embarrassed and very sorry for what has happened. He’s let himself and his family down.

“He doesn’t know where this behaviour has come from as he does not regard himself as sectarian or racist.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Collins £1,400.
