Open day at military base

-

People can experience life at Leuchars as the military base opens its gates to the public today.

Leuchars Station Open Day offers the chance to tackle a 100ft assault course, dress as a soldier and take ‘soldier selfies’ with serving men and women.

A packed programme includes military displays, marching bands, music and Highland dancing.

There will be a military village offering the chance to see equipment used by units based at Leuchars, and modern and vintage vehicles.

Eight supercars will also be on display, and visitors can browse craft stalls.

Leuchars Station, formerly RAF Leuchars, is home to nine regular and reserve units, including the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, 2 Close Support Battalion, Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, 71 Engineer Regiment and the RAF Diversionary Airfield.

Open day organiser Susan Budd, the station’s community support officer, said: “The station is thrilled to be able to put this event on for our families at Leuchars and the public.

“It is an ideal opportunity for the residents of Fife and further afield to come on to the station itself and experience and learn more about what we do here at Leuchars Station, as well as enjoying all of the other entertainment provided.”

The open day runs from 11am to 4pm.
