Boost for homeless project
A project supporting homeless people in Fife has received £147,354 from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland.
YMCA Glenrothes, based in North Street, plans to use the funding to help homeless people get more involved in their communities through its Y Social Skills Academy.
The scheme will be mainly aimed at people aged 16 to 30.
Director Mary Hill said: “We’re providing learning and training opportunities for people who are statutorily homeless. It’s about increasing people’s confidence, coping mechanisms, physical health and participation in local community activities.
“The Big Lottery Fund has recognised the value of what we do here at YMCA Glenrothes and we’re delighted to have three years of funding to take this to the next level.”
The organisation, which supports 59 homeless people each night, was one of 50 groups across Scotland to receive a share of grants totalling more than £9 million.
Big Lottery Fund Scotland chairwoman Maureen McGinn, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this £9.6m investment will reach into communities across Scotland and transform the lives of local people.
“Each of these inspiring projects will assist people at the times when they need most support, providing them with the tools, confidence and skills to work towards a more positive future.”
