Police have launched an investigation following the death of a father of one in Kirkcaldy.

Forensic teams spent yesterday searching a flat in Greenloanings, in the Templehall area, after the body of shop worker Imran Arshed was discovered in the property.

The 35-year-old had been found on Tuesday afternoon, with a large police presence descending on the quiet residential area.

A property in Alford Avenue was also cordoned off yesterday, understood to be in connection with the inquiry.

Confirming yesterday that an investigation into the fatality was now under way, a Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Fife attended at an address in Greenloanings, Kirkcaldy where the body of a 35-year-old man was found inside.

“His death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are continuing.”

The ground floor flat remained sealed off throughout yesterday, as several forensic officers made their way in and out of the two-storey building.

Uniformed officers, meanwhile, remained stationed outside the property and at the entrance to the cul-de-sac.

Mr Arshed is understood to have moved to Greenloanings in the past year, with neighbours describing him as a private person.

His family operate the David and Sons convenience store in Kirkcaldy’s Harcourt Drive.

The family were unavailable to comment when contacted by The Courier yesterday.

Georgina Matthews, whose home is opposite the flat, said any police activity in the area was highly unusual.

“I’ve lived here for 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” she said.

“I don’t know the circumstances but I just feel so sorry for the man’s family.”

Another, who did not wish to be named, said: “He hasn’t lived here for very long. Probably about a year or so.

“I never met him but most people in the street tend to keep themselves to themselves.”
