Opportunity to go on South African field trip
An opportunity to learn about South African agriculture is on offer from the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS).
The all-expenses paid, 12-day trip to South Africa is part of its ongoing commitment to young people in agriculture, and will be hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC) next generation programme.
The study tour, which leaves the UK on August 29, is open to anyone under 40, who is a member of RHASS or nominated by an RHASS member. The deadline for applications is July 24.
The itinerary includes visits to fruit, grain and vegetable farms, a tour of the Biedouw Boer goat stud, visits to an Angus cattle farm and mutton Merino sheep farm, a tour of a tea factory, visit to a game resort and travel by mule cart to see how donkeys are used for ploughing and harvesting.
RHASS chief executive Alan Laidlaw said the organisation was committed to investing in the next generation of progressive and outward-thinking farmers.
“The experiences gained could be truly life changing and I encourage anyone under 40 to make the time to apply and give themselves the chance of an adventure of a lifetime,” he said.
Anyone interested should call 0131 335 6235 or email aprilm@rhass.org.uk to request an application form.
