City want to iron out mistakes for Livingston visit

- iroache@thecourier.co.uk by Ian Roache

Brechin City begin their home campaign in the Championship with a visit from an in-form Livingston team, with Glebe Park boss Darren Dods looking for his side to make up for a false start at Queen of the South.

In their first league game since winning promotion via the play-offs, Brechin went down 4-1 and Dods is looking for better this time around.

He explained: “Our opening game was disappointing. We made mistakes that we did not make in League One last season and when you give a striker like Derek Lyle, who has scored over 100 goals in his time at Queens, chances then you will get punished.

“We let ourselves down and even when we pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 we never looked like we would make the scoreline even better.

“It was a big occasion and we felt that we let ourselves down in it.”

Dods reckons that being at Glebe Park will help against the Lions.

He added: “We are looking for a reaction against Livingston and being at home will help us.

“We have a good record there and being back in familiar surroundings will hopefully help us settle down.

“Livingston have been terrific this season and that is not a surprise to me after watching them close up last season and then against Motherwell in pre-season.

“They played well that day and were unfortunate to lose.

“They are also coming here after a terrific Betfred Cup win over Falkirk.

“We had them watched and the report has told me that they were deserved winners and that they grew stronger throughout the game and extra-time.

“We knew that we were taking a stepup this season but we are looking to be far more competitive from now on.”

James Dale and Aron Lynas return from suspension but Ryan McGeever is banned and Liam Watt is not yet ready to return after a wrist problem.
