Tayport boss likely to continue in midfield

-

Boss Charlie King was pleased the way Tayport responded to last week’s 6-2 defeat at Musselburgh by posting the same score at home to Glenrothes in midweek.

Indeed, the 37-year-old was pressed into action after Port’s two Spanish midfielders were ruled out through injury and he produced a classy midfield performance over the 90 minutes.

With the Spanish duo still struggling – as are two or three others – its odds on he’ll be involved this afternoon when Dunbar are the visitors.

Adding spice to the encounter, his brother is the assistant manager at the newly-promoted Lothians club.

Glad to get the first win at Downfield in midweek, Kirrie boss Jim Finlayson knows they have a tough job on their hands when they welcome Fauldhouse United.

The West Lothian outfit were relegated at the end of last season but have made a good start with two wins from two, the second of which was a 4-1 win over Whitburn, who overcame Thistle last week.

The same squad, plus one or two returning from injury, will be available to Finlayson.

St Andrews were another team to pick up three points in midweek thanks to a 3-2 victory.

It was Saints’ first in the Premier League since February and they will hope to build on that at home to Haddington.

Following that win, one or two players are nursing niggly injuries, but are expected to recover, but Liam McDaid is absent.

Having suffered two defeats, it has been a disappointing start for Downfield and they will have their work cut out to improve on that record away to Tranent.

Their hosts finished fourth last term and have taken four points from the opening two games.

Glenrothes were on the wrong end of that Tayport result but, with six trialists in their squad at the Canniepairt, boss Willie Campbell acknowledged that the inexperience told.

For the trip to Whitburn today, he expects to have four or five back and is looking forward to having a more settled team.
