Dons urged to build on perfect start to season

-

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes wants no let-up from his players after the international break following their perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season.

The Dons went two points clear at the top of the table thanks to a 4-3 victory against Partick Thistle on Saturday.

Adam Rooney came off the bench to net a late winner for the Reds, who return to action after the international break on September 9 when they take on Hearts at Murrayfield.

McInnes said: “The win against Partick felt like a big result.

“When you play well but don’t win, it is scant consolation.

“The players were rewarded for their efforts. We showed some real quality with the goals and there was also a lot of real endeavour and determination to make sure we won.

“It has been a good start. We have always been a team that is capable of going on winning runs and unbeaten runs.

“We challenged the players at the start of the season to see if we could win our first four league games and make it to the last eight of the League Cup and we have managed to do that.

“I am really pleased with the start and hopefully we can pick up where we left off when we come back and play Hearts.

“There is no better time to go on a winning run than the start of the season.

“We are capable of doing that so hopefully we can keep it going.”
