Fife man threatened boy, 11, then spat at nurse and police constable

A Dunfermline man who threatened a boy in the street and later spat at a nurse and police officer has been jailed.

Colin Hamilton, 31, a prisoner at Low Moss, admitted that on May 1 at Clunie Road, Dunfermline, he shouted, swore and made threats at an 11-year-old boy.

On May 10, in a police vehicle en route to Dunfermline Police Station, he was shouting, swearing, repeatedly made threats towards police officers.

At Dunfermline Police Station, he resisted, obstructed or hindered five police officers by refusing to leave the police vehicle and struggling violently with them, before going on to shout, swear and make abusive remarks towards two female nurses at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital. He also admitted assaulting a female nurse by spitting at her and spitting at a police constable.

Depute fiscal Sarah Lumsden said the first offence occurred after Hamilton’s children became involved in an incident with a boy and girl who were waiting on the bus. One of his children had thrown a toy hitting the boy on the head and he responded by going into their garden and kicking a ball away.

Shortly afterwards the boy and girl saw Hamilton coming towards them. He went close up to the boy’s face, shouting: “I’ll knock you out.”

Later after being arrested he threatened police officers saying: “I’ll bite your nose off”.

He was taken to hospital after saying he had taken drugs. At the Victoria, his behaviour caused him to have a spit-hood placed over his head.

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Hamilton the spitting incidents in particular were “quite disgusting” and jailed him for 360 days.
