September sunshine blesses big show
Extended summer weather helps visitors enjoy varied programme of displays, food demonstrations – and dinosaur rapping
Nearly 20,000 visitors to the Dundee Flower and Food Festival enjoyed a packed programme of events and some glorious September sunshine at the weekend.
As well as plant and craft displays, the three-day event at Camperdown Park featured cookery demonstrations from a host of top chefs, live music from local bands and even a performance of “Dino Raps” from CBeebies presenter Andy Day.
He performed his dinosaur-themed musical extravaganza twice for fans of all ages yesterday afternoon and drew huge crowds to the music stage for both sets. He also posed for pictures with fans after each concert.
In the kitchen, MasterChef: The Professionals winner Jamie Scott and celebrity chef Tony Singh were among those giving cookery demonstrations yesterday, while Nick Nairn and Adam Newth from the Tayberry both made appearances on Saturday.
Other famous faces who appeared included Gary Maclean, winner of the most recent series of MasterChef: The Professionals, and gardening guru Jim McColl.
Festival director Gary Robertson said it was a “privilege” to be involved in organising the event.
He said: “People return year on year and we are always trying to make it bigger and better.
“It is a privilege to basically be the show manager and to continue to deliver for the public.”
Deputy neighbourhood services convener Councillor Anne Rendall praised visitors and those taking part, adding: “We are delighted with what has been another excellent show.
