Community festival promises music and art for everyone

-

St Monans is gearing up for its ninth annual Community Arts Festival this weekend.

This year’s festival promises to have something for everyone.

A dozen artists will exhibit at 10 open house venues, as well as more than 20 artists at the church hall.

The hall will also host a number of craft stalls, a festival café, an exhibition of entries to the photographic competition, videos about the village and musical performances.

All events are free, but workshops should be booked.

Festival secretary Helen Marshall said: “The workshops include one on yoga and creativity, an art workshop on perspective and composition, a glass painting workshop and a masterclass in the art of diabolo and Japanese kendama.”

The event kicks off tomorrow with a performance by St Monans Primary School pupils. Later there will be a variety night at 7.30pm in the Mayview Hotel’s function suite, featuring both vocal and instrumental acts from the village.

On Saturday, local favourites, the Crosswater Band, will play an eclectic mix of swing, jazz and rock, supported by Dog Days of Summer playing music from the 1960s to the present.

This event takes place in the town hall from 7.30pm.

St Monans Parish Church will host the festival’s final event at 2.30pm on Sunday when St Monans Community Choir will be joined by string instrumentalists Glas Duo.

Festival chairwoman Ruth Craib said: “We want everyone in the village to get involved and we look forward to welcoming art lovers and friends of the village from across Fife and beyond, to join us and enjoy all the great free events we have planned for the festival.”
