Magical Effect can conjure up some success
RacINg: Yorkshire raider wants to add to great run when he visits Musselburgh
Ruth Carr is looking forward to another big run from top-weight MAGICAL EFFECT in the St Andrews Timber Handicap at Musselburgh tonight.
The Yorkshire raider has enjoyed a productive campaign which has yielded two wins and four places from just eight starts for his Stillington trainer.
“He’s a horse we’ve always liked and he’s had a very consistent season,” Mrs Carr said. “His recent form is pretty good and he wasn’t beaten far over this trip when a little unlucky at Catterick even although both his wins have been at six furlongs.”
After combining for a double for their first course wins at Musselburgh last Wednesday, Lambourn trainer Archie Watson and jockey Edward Greatrex are after more success.
The pair team up with MASARZAIN in the Cala Homes Handicap and Brandon Castle in the Realm Constuction-Civil Engineering And Groundworks Handicap.
GAWDAWPALIN should not be discounted in the Victoria Racing Club Handicap at Ascot.
Sylvester Kirk’s four-year-old renews rivalry with Great Hall, who was a length-and-a-quarter too sharp for the selection on Shergar Cup day.
But Great Hall is now 3lb higher in the weights, whereas Gawdawpalin runs off the same mark.
That should mean Kirk’s representative has a fighting chance of reversing the form, especially as he was not helped by a wide draw in the Shergar Cup Challenge.
BANKSEA is a worthy ally in the Weatherbys Handicap.
The Luca Cumani-trained four-yearold was disappointing in the Royal Hunt Cup on his most recent start in June, but he has been given plenty of time to recover from those exertions.
As such, Banksea should be much fresher than many of his rivals in this one-mile handicap. SELECTIONS: ASCOT: 1.30 Scenery, 2.05 Odyssa, 2.40 Herculean, 3.15 Musawaat, 3.50 Uptown Funk, 4.25 Gawdawpalin, 5.00 BANKSEA (NAP). 5.30 Ninjago.
MUSSELBURGH: 4.30 Oswald, 5.05 Liquid, 5.35 High Wells, 6.05 Masarzain, 6.35 Magical Effect, 7.05 Stoneham, 7.35 The Night Before.
DOUBLE: Banksea and Gawdawpalin.
