“I was living in Sheffield during the blitzes of 1940 and our house was badly damaged,” emails Alistair MacLeod. “We got evacuated to great aunts who lived in Wormit. I was nine and joined Wormit school on January 7 1941.
“I can remember we were taught how to wrap parcels and cover books to protect them with brown paper. I still have my report card which is still in good condition. We also got taught fractions; I loved that subject.”
