Lichties manager demanding more of the same

Campbell wants his players to keep up momentum after fine win at Ayr United last time out

After Arbroath’s coupon-busting win against Ayr United before the international break, Gayfield gaffer Dick Campbell is demanding more of the same from his players when they play Albion Rovers at home this afternoon.

The Red Lichties stunned Ian McCall’s full-time side at Somerset Park, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Omar Kader and skipper Mark Whatley.

That victory capped what Campbell believes has been a good start to the season for his side who have taken seven points from 12 on offer so far.

And he is determined that promising beginning will continue against an Albion Rovers side who are managed by former Arbroath, Dundee and Scotland midfielder Brian Kerr.

Campbell said: “I am happy with the start we have made to the league campaign.

“We may have lost at home to East Fife and we should have won instead of drawing at Airdrie.

“However, we have beaten Queen’s Park at home and we had another great win on the road two weeks ago at Ayr.

“We put on a very professional performance. We set a good standard in that game and I want to see it maintained.

“The boys have set a high benchmark and they have to produce that again in what will be another tough game against Albion Rovers.

“They will come to Gayfield believing they can pick up a good result. But we have a strong squad and I am reasonably happy with the way we are going.

“We are not getting carried away but if we continue to pick up points at the rate we have been, then we will finish in the play-off positions.

“I will be selecting the same team that did so well against Ayr which means the likes of Ryan McCord and Bobby Linn will be on the bench again.”

Arbroath’s Bryan Prunty and Josh Skelly will miss the game through injuries picked up in friendlies during the international break.
