Hit The Ground Running Newton Faulkner
For best-selling singer/ songwriter Newton Faulkner, the last few years have been about change. In Hit the Ground Running, Faulkner has crafted a beautifully chilled album that showcases his voice and emotions. This is the perfect album to round off the summer and welcome in autumn. 9/10
American Dream LCD Soundsystem
The announcement of the punk-funk-dance-indie outfit’s return was met with mixed responses. Unlike most reunion albums, LCD Soundsystem achieve that rare feat of making it seem like they’ve never been away. They’ve now melded into a sound that is now undeniably theirs. 8/10
Every Country’s Sun Mogwai
This enigmatic Glasgow postrock outfit have reunited with producer Dave Fridmann for this batch of instrumentals. Some work better than others – AK47 sounds like the theme from a computer game from 1983. But Mogwai remain the go-to band for morbidly atmospheric soundscapes. 7/10
The Deluder Roddy Woomble
Turning 40 appears to have awoken an experimental spirit in the Idlewild frontman, judging by this rambling and eclectic set. A world away from Idlewild, or indeed his folk collaborations with Kris Drever and John McCusker, this is an interesting but curious diversion. 6/10
