Strictly Come Dancing Launch Show 2017 (BBC1, 7pm-8.40pm)
New series. The pro-celebrity ballroom contest returns, with an opening spectacular featuring last year’s champions Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton performing their winning routine, plus music from Shania Twain and Rita Ora. This year, the ‘Queen of Latin’ Shirley Ballas will be replacing Len Goodman on the judges’ panel, with Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell all returning to appraise the talents of the amateur dancers and their professional partners.
Last Night of the Proms (BBC1, 9pm-10.30pm)
The second half of the Last Night at the Proms concert, broadcast live from London’s Royal Albert Hall. Conductor Sakari Oramo leads the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in celebrating the 70th birthday of John Adams with the London premiere of his work Lola Montez Does the Spider Dance.
Inspector Montalbano (BBC4, 9pm-10.55pm)
The detective investigates when a woman’s body is found in the foyer of an apartment block, but finds that all the residents deny ever having seen her in the building. In Italian. Dermot O’Leary presents as the nationwide talent contest continues apace in the third rounds of auditions. Another selection of would-be stars submit themselves for approval by uncompromising resident judges Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell.
9/11: The Firemen’s Story (More4, 10.35pm-11.35pm)
Firefighters who served during the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001, who accounted for 343 of the 2,752 dead. Their bold tactic of rushing into the heart of skyscraper fires cost many lives, but also saved a large number of others. This documentary speaks to survivors.
