Great interest attaches to the personal Investiture by the King of ladies and gentlemen appearing in the first list of the recentlyconstituted Order of the British Empire. The King will make the bestowals, but as ladies are concerned, the Queen may grace the occasion by her presence. The ceremony will take place in one of the State rooms at Buckingham Palace. The attendance will be more than 200. Some of the bestowals were made during the recent Royal visit to Scotland. 100 years ago 50 years ago A wealthy Australian racehorse owner plans to build Australia’s first horse hospital-motel on his property near Sydney. Mr Stan Fox, who thought up the idea, wants to give horses medical treatment and a rest at the 100,000-dollar (£40,000) hospital-motel after heavy racing schedules. He does not expect to make a profit, but hopes that the horse-hospital will become a showplace for veterinary skills. “I just want to see a better deal for horses,” he commented. 25 years ago An Edinburgh-bound Intercity express from Dundee was brought to a standstill on the Tay rail bridge by a man walking along the line in front of it. The train had to brake to a halt soon after starting to cross the Tay when the driver spotted a lone figure in the middle of the tracks heading towards Fife, apparently oblivious to the train behind him. Despite repeated sounding of the diesel’s warning klaxon, the walker refused to step aside. Police officers attended and took the man to hospital. One year ago Bridie power is fuelling the 100% charge of Scotland’s bestperforming football team. Forfar Athletic are sitting at the top of Scottish League Two after winning all six games in their campaign so far. Only Manchester City have the same win rate in the UK – but players and staff believe they have a special ingredient that is serving the club well. New team mascot Baxter the Bridie came to Station Park after a disappointing 2015 season. And his arrival has sparked a renaissance for the team.
