Fundraising tribute to rock stars
A night of musical entertainment will be held in Fife this weekend in a tribute to two international music stars who died earlier this year.
Local woman Susan Cowan is organising the event in the Monarch Bar in Dunfermline’s James Street on Saturday to celebrate the music of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who died in May, and Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, who died in July.
The event, which will showcase a number of local musicians, aims to raise cash for two local mental health charities, Headroom and Penumbra, which are instrumental in preventing suicide and treating mental illness.
Susan, who also runs local business The Sweet Stop, said: “It’s a cause very close to my heart and I want to raise as much as I can to help nip this in the bud.
“Information on how to get help or help others will be available on the night.”
Cornell, who was 52, was best known as the lead vocalist for rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, but was also known for numerous solo works and as the frontman for Temple of the Dog.
Susan said she decided to add Bennington, who was just 41 and was also the frontman for Dead by Sunrise and Stone Temple Pilots, to the tribute as he was a close friend of Cornell’s.
Doors open at 7.30pm and children are welcome until 10.30pm.
