Driver jailed for throwing cloud of heroin out of car window

-

A Fife motorist threw a cloud of heroin out of his car window as he was followed down the A9 in Perthshire by police.

Andrew Snaddon was spotted by officers who tried to stop his vehicle near Luncarty.

However, the 30-year-old refused to stop, and as police tailed his car they witnessed him throw a white powder out the window.

Later a drugs test on the vehicle revealed he had been in possession of diamorphine (heroin).

Depute fiscal Michael Sweeney told Perth Sheriff Court: “It was about 9.30am and constables were driving a marked vehicle and had cause to stop the accused. They signalled for him to pull over but he continued driving south.

“He was seen to put his hand out of the window and empty a packet. The officers saw the powder disperse in the air.

“The accused stopped at the next traffic lights and was detained.

“A drugs dog investigated the vehicle and indicated for drugs at the steering wheel and footwell.

“It was tested and found to be diamorphine.”

Snaddon’s solicitor said his client had been travelling from his mother’s holiday caravan and had “panicked” upon realising the police vehicle was behind him.

Snaddon admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice by emptying two bags of white powder from his car to prevent them being recovered by police on the A9 on October 13 last year.

He further admitted being in possession of diamorphine.

Sheriff Derek Reekie jailed Snaddon, of Main Street, Lochgelly, for four-and-a-half months.
