McDonald’s plans back on track

-

Long-awaited plans to bring fast food, and 65 jobs, to Leven have moved a step closer to reality.

Safety fears at a junction had held up plans by McDonald’s to open a restaurant and drivethru by the town’s retail park on Riverside Road.

Following complex talks between Fife Council planners and the fast food chain, McDonald’s have agreed to draw up plans for a mini-roundabout at the proposed site.

It is believed this would create a safe junction for customers and other road users.

The news has been hailed by councillors who say Leven is in dire need of investment.

Labour councillor Colin Davidson said: “There’s still work to be done and we’re not 100% there yet but our officers are working hard on this and, I’m pleased to say, several other projects to make Levenmouth a better place to live and work.”

He added: “It’s refreshing to work with highly talented officers who see the potential for creating opportunities and reducing poverty through job creation as a priority, yet being able to ensure all the planning laws are observed.”

Fellow Labour councillor Ryan Smart added: “Hopefully not long now till we get our McDonald’s, creating jobs for local people and a boost for the local economy.”

SNP member John O’Brien said he had been assured all safety concerns would be addressed before the application is considered.
