Short-benched Dundee Stars came from behind to snatch a 5-4 penalty shots win over visiting Elite League pace-setters Manchester Storm.

Dundee’s squad was reduced to 17 players, the injury list expanded to include Adam Harding after he picked up a knock against Belfast Giants on Friday night. He joined Anthony Mastrodicasa, Cameron McGiffin and Chris Lawrence on the sidelines.

Dallas Ehrhardt was the first to show the Altrincham side’s scoring ability when he beat Travis Fullerton on 4.12.

Matt Beca doubled the away side’s lead on 5.05 when his effort found the net. Joey De Concilys brought Dundee back into the game when his shot hit the back of the net at 6.39 on a powerplay.

The home team had many secondperiod chances.

Dundee were put on the powerplay after ex-Star Paul Swindlehurst was penalised on a holding call then received a 10-minute misconduct penalty for abuse.

Stars’ powerplay unit punished the Storm for their poor discipline, De Concilys equalising on 30.06.

A turnover close to the blue line gave the puck to the Storm and Mike Hammond tucked it past Fullerton to put Manchester 3-2 ahead at 38.10.

Dundee’s injury worries grew when De Concilys took a knock and did not return to the game.

Dundee went on to tie the score after a quick play out of the corner, with the goal credited to Justin Fox at 54.16.

Despite an intense third period from Dundee, the Storm took the lead when Jay Rosehill netted a rebound at 58.00.

Stars head coach Omar Pacha removed his netminder in exchange for an extra skater, and found the net to tie the game with 44 seconds left.

There were chances at both ends in extra time but no one could make the most of them, so penalties were needed.

The shoot-out went all the way to sudden death.

Marc-Olivier Mimar gave Dundee the edge, and Scott Pitt failed to beat Fullerton.

Mike Hammond and Omar Pacha won Man of the Match awards.

Meanwhile, Fife Flyers failed to make home advantage pay on Saturday, losing 4-2 to Belfast Giants.

Edinburgh Capitals lost 5-2 to the Braehead Clan.
