Work is nearing completion on new business units in Glenrothes expected to give Fife an economic boost.

The construction of the new facilities at Queensway Technology and Business Park, which began in March, has been delivered by Fife Council, with support from the Fife Task Force as part of a £6 million package of funding support from the Scottish Government.

Located next to the main trunk road network and near Glenrothes town centre, the finished project will offer a cluster of new small business units for rent on a site at Flemington Road.

Seven units are being made available, ranging from 98 sq metres to 130 sq metres. The project backers say they will provide new business space to help meet demand for modern, fit for purpose business accommodation.

Councillor Altany Craik, convener of the economy, tourism, strategic planning and transportation committee, said the development marks a significant milestone in Fife Council’s long-term commitment to the regeneration of the Queensway.

“This offers a great opportunity for smaller, local businesses to locate in modern purpose-built premises.

“Units like these are so important to the local economy, and local jobs.

“There is a lot happening at Queensway, and Fife Council’s regeneration efforts here have been speeded up by Fife Task Force support.

“This project has been completed on time and on budget. Further work to clear empty run-down properties in the area to make way for new development is also under way.

“Queensway is one of Central Fife’s best-located employment locations and I’m sure that these new properties will prove popular with businesses.”

Councillor Fiona Grant, chairwoman of the Glenrothes area committee, said: “Glenrothes is continually evolving and adapting to industry demands, and this is just one of the many projects under way as part of the wider regeneration of the Queensway Technology and Business Park, and the town centre area.

“Glenrothes can help Fife realise its full potential by supporting the growth of existing local businesses and helping attract new ones.

“The new units, each designed to high standards, will offer a home for a range of businesses and satisfy the known demand for these types of premises.

“These new units are an exciting addition to our ambitious plan for the regeneration of Queensway Technology and Business Park.”
