Manager Neil McCann has stressed that Dundee’s victory over Ross County was “every bit as big” as their shock win against Rangers.

The Dark Blues lifted themselves up to ninth in the table after earning three points in consecutive league games for the first time since McCann’s first two matches in charge at the tail end of last season.

The 2-0 success against County backed up the surprise 2-1 triumph over Rangers, with midfielder Mark O’Hara following on from his double against the Ibrox club with the crucial opener in the Highlands.

And McCann, who had been under fire earlier in the season after five successive defeats, believes the back-toback wins are concrete evidence of the improvements being made at Dens Park.

The Dundee boss said: “I said to them during the game that the victory against Rangers was fantastic for them because it almost reinforced and showed that the work we’ve been doing was not just empty words.

“I heard Rangers saying they didn’t play well.

“We didn’t play our best in that game but we won, and it was so, so important for them.

“It’s a brilliant three points on Saturday. I said to them that the three last week was great against Rangers, but this is every bit as big.”

Dundee held on to O’Hara’s first-half breakthrough until a minute from the end when Faissal El Bakhtaoui’s clever lob sealed the 2-0 victory.

McCann was eager to praise all of his players as they leapfrogged Kilmarnock and Ross County and stretched their advantage over Partick Thistle at the bottom to four points.

He added: “That was a total team performance.

“They worked so hard and I think the whole team deserved man of the match.”
