Plans to breathe life into bank
A town bank building could be given a new lease of life after plans were unveiled to turn the building into a block of flats.
A planning application has been submitted to Fife Council to transform the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Burntisland High Street into five properties.
The classic B-listed building also features a more modern extension to its rear, which has been factored into the redevelopment plans.
A design statement from developer Cramond Glebe Property says: “Due to the many alterations to the building to accommodate modern bank machinery and teller positions there is little of the interior of the original building at ground floor.
“The first floor, while being altered, retains much of the original cornice work and joinery and the intention is to restore and replace same as necessary.
“The existing timber and slate roof is in need of repair and complete reslating on both roof planes. As such this presents an opportunity for redevelopment.
“The proposal is to make use of the various necessary repair work to redevelop the building by removing the incongruous rear extension to expose the original building form and make good using the material salvaged from downtakings.”
A decision on the planning proposal is expected to be taken by the region’s planning officers on Tuesday February 6
