Pars boss backing keeper to shine

-

Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston insists he senses a fresh determination to succeed in new signing Lee Robinson.

The keeper has celebrated clean sheets in both of his appearances for the Pars since coming out of semi-retirement to pen a short-term deal on January 1.

The 31-year-old, who has become a social media hit in recent months with his Modern Day GK training videos, had been without a club since leaving Queen of the South in September.

The Sunderland-born stopper has confessed to making mistakes in his past, with two spells at Rangers and stints with Kilmarnock and Ostersunds failing to work out as he would have hoped.

However, Johnston is convinced Robinson, who he worked with at Queens, is eager to prove himself all over again at East End Park.

He said: “I know him really well and I had every confidence he could come in and do well.

“He is really agile, he comes for crosses and he is a bit of a character. He’ll bring something to the team, definitely – he’s a bubbly guy.

“Lee’s really switched on now. Years ago, he probably wasn’t as determined to be a goalie as he is now. He wants to kick on his career and hopefully he does that.”

Robinson was recruited with No 1 Sean Murdoch suffering from osteitis pubis, an inflammation in his lower stomach area.

East Fife manager Darren Young has revealed that the intervention of Ian McCall saw Ayr pip the Fifers and Airdrie to the signing of Stranraer captain Stevie Bell.

The 32-year-old former Dundee United, Stirling Albion and Dunfermline player worked with Ayr boss McCall at Tannadice and opted to work with him again.
