Top six spot within Dark Blues’ grasp as McGowan appeals for consistency

-

Paul McGowan insists that if Dundee can maintain the levels of consistency they have produced recently, then a top six finish could be within their grasp this season.

That may seem a bold claim considering the Dark Blues are currently only five points ahead of rock bottom Ross County and two in front of Partick Thistle in the Premiership relegation playoff spot.

However, the 30-year-old midfielder is fully confident manager Neil McCann has put together a team that is capable of climbing all the way into the top half of the table.

McGowan said: “The consistency of our performances has become more level.

“Anybody can beat anybody in this league – if you’re not at it, then you’re going to be in for a hard time.

“If we keep going the way we’ve been going, I’m pretty sure we will move up that table and I’m confident we can get in the top six.

“With the team we’ve got, the squad we have, if we keep playing the way we have been playing then I am sure we will do it.

“What an achievement it will be if we can.”

Dundee have received widespread praise for their style of play this season.

However, McGowan admits the focus is very much on harvesting points not plaudits.

He said: “It’s enjoyable to play in – I keep saying that.

“You watch some games and they’re just launching the ball but that’s not us.

“We can mix it as well if we need to go to one of our big strikers.

“I just think we need to keep going and we’ll be fine. We are always looking up, never looking down.

“Obviously, we are a few points off top six and again only a couple off bottom.

“However, the league’s tight and it’s always been where a couple of wins gets you right up there.”
