Town to host Fife Pride event for second year after 2017 success

-

Fife Pride will return to Kirkcaldy this summer for the second event of its kind in the kingdom.

The Pride march and festival, which attracted an estimated 3,000 people in its inaugural year in 2017, will take place on Saturday July 7.

Co-convener Richard McArthur said Kirkcaldy had been chosen for a second time thanks to the overwhelming positive response from the public who attended the town square event.

“The venue has great transport links and is more practical than most of the parks for people with mobility issues,” he said. “We are looking forward to improving on our successful first year and we hope everyone will get the date in their diary and come and visit Fife for the weekend on July 7.”

None of the bigger funded LGBT organisations operate in Fife and Richard said the Pride team wanted to deliver more social events to bring people together in the region this year.

“We had some really positive feedback from people who attended in 2017,” he said.

“One of the main points was around a lack of options for people just to get together more often, so I’m determined we’ll give Fifers more options for the community to socialise this year. It can be difficult when we have no LGBT bars or clubs and when the geography of Fife means people are spread out so much but we’ll be announcing details of more events in the coming weeks.”

Fife Pride was founded from a partnership between Pink Saltire, Fife Centre for Equalities and other cultural and youth organisations in the region and was funded through donations, including from the Big Lottery and Fife Council.
