Late Tannadice call-off leaves United facing mad March

TANNADICE: QoS clash call-off adds to United’s heavy fixture backlog

Dundee United are facing a fixture headache after their home match against Queen of the South, scheduled for last night, was postponed due to heavy snow.

The Tangerines had hoped to get a victory over the Dumfries men to ease some of the pain inflicted by last Friday’s loss at Livingston and also makeup some points on their Championship rivals.

However, the fixture was beaten by the “beast from the east” as white-out weather in the city saw the match, due to kick off at 7.45pm, called off at around 6pm.

It was the last thing manager Csaba Laszlo and his players needed due to their already heavy fixture backlog and gives the Hungarian another headache to go with his side’s form slump.

With a new date still to be found for this clash a mad March looms for United, when they are due to play seven games.

First up, they face runaway league leaders St Mirren at Tannadice this Friday night, play Brechin at Glebe Park on March 10, Queens away on the 13th, Inverness at home on the 17th, host Dunfermline on the 24th, go up to Inverness on the 27th, then travel to Greenock to play Morton on the 31st.

The call-off was also bad news for Queens, who had a fruitless journey up from the south.

The Doonhamers seemed to appreciate that the pitch had been playable earlier in the day and that there wasn’t much United could do about the teatime snowfall.

A statement from the Palmerston club said: “Tonight’s game at Tannadice has been postponed following blizzard conditions hitting Dundee in the last hour or so.

“A green pitch at 4.30pm was unfortunately unplayable an hour later. The two clubs will discuss a new date for this fixture as soon as possible,” it continued.

Dunfermline’s trip to Brechin City also fell foul of the weather, along with Arbroath’s visit to Albion Rovers in Ladbrokes League 1 and League 2 strugglers Cowdenbeath’s clash with Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.
