Prime hoggs in demand at market

Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 2,185 prime hoggets, ewes and tups. All classes of hoggs sharper on the week, with 1,594 hoggs averaging 211.5ppkg (+4.6p on the week), with 1,100 hoggs (39-52kg) averaging 217ppkg. Top price of the day went to Doune Farms, West Lundie, for a 57kg Beltex at £120. Top price per kg went to Ian Campbell, Meikle Seggie, for a pair of Beltex X at 257ppkg.

Also forward were 591 cast ewes and tups. A total of 194 heavy ewes averaged £75.41 selling to £104.50 for a pen of Texels from J&D McNicol, Whitecross. A total of 337 export ewes averaged £50.41. A total of 57 cast tups averaged £77.46 selling to £130 for a Texel from WM Bell & Son, Craigend.
