Pensioner jailed for decades of sex abuse

-

A pensioner who sexually abused three children over three decades has been jailed for four years.

Victor Bawol,76, of Findcastle Place, Dundee, targeted his victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at various locations in Dundee and Inverness-shire between September 1970 and April 2005.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Bawol was brought to justice after one of his victims overdosed on painkillers.

The man managed to recover and told his girlfriend about what Bawol had done to him. She contacted the man’s mother.

The mum then contacted police, who managed to collect enough evidence to bring him to justice.

The story emerged last month after Bawol pleaded guilty before judge Lord Ericht to sexual assault charges. Sentence had been deferred for the court to obtain reports.

The court heard last month that Bawol started abusing his first victim in September 1970.

She was aged just five when he assaulted her for the first time and the abuse continued until September 1979.

The accused then started assaulting his second victim in February 1992 at a location in Angus when she was also aged just five.

Defence advocate Jonathan Crowe told the court the accused, who once worked as a cinema projectionist, was sorry for what he had done.

He added: “He is devastated by the horror he has inflicted.”
