Wright calls for positive mindset for derby clash

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright believes his team are due some Tayside derby good fortune.

The Perth side have lost twice to Dundee this season and hope to make it third time lucky at Dens tomorrow.

“Results against Dundee have not been great in the last year,” Wright said.

“But we haven’t had the rub of the green against them. The game at Dens, we had a perfectly good goal chalked off to make it 2-2 and they then get the penalty. The second half performance against them in Perth with 10 men was excellent.

“It was full of energy, commitment and quality. They are all of the things we need to do to get a result on Saturday.

“It’s a big game for both clubs with every point and every win vital,”

Guessing a Neil McCann team selection is no easy task – particularly with midfield regulars Glen Kamara and Paul McGowan banned.

“Neil has a few suspensions but our focus will be on us,” said Wright.

“We will be aware and prepare in case they play a certain system but ultimately we need to go out and perform for 90 minutes – not for 25 minutes and then give away a soft goal.

“I know a win puts us five points ahead of Dundee which would be massive.

“We need to be positive and make sure the players go into the game believing they can win.”
