Dundee High’s five-weeklong wait for action is over

-

Search as hard as you like but you won’t find any sign of a match played by Dundee High in BT National 1 since they beat Stewart’s Melville 25-19 on February 17.

The miserable state of affairs for the Mayfield men is a consequence of weather postponements and rescheduled fixture Saturdays which did not include them.

That comes to an end tomorrow when they pitch up at Stoneyhill for a clash which sees the start of their final four-game run-in.

To be honest, all Dundee are looking for is a respectable finish to a season which has seen them too inconsistent to mount a challenge. Although they beat Musselburgh 50-17 at Mayfield in October, they may find it a little more difficult this time.

Burgh were involved in an eight-try cracker against Kelso last Friday night which ended 22-22, and although they are third bottom of the table, they are pretty well clear of relegation danger but they, too, would like to put some shine on the final stages of their season.

It has been some season for Kirkcaldy who sit 10 points clear at the top of BT National 2, within touching distance of being promoted and what is more, elevated as champions.

After last week’s gritty 15-8 win over Peebles, they have four games to go, and can look back on a winning streak leading all the way to their last defeat on October 21.

A toiling West of Scotland side pitch up tomorrow with their best hope being to keep the score as respectable as it was at Burnbrae when the two met in October and the visitors edged it 17-14.

Only a total implosion now by Kirkcaldy could prevent this from being their most successful season for many a year.

Howe of Fife head to Glasgow to face a struggling Whitecraigs, nine points adrift at the bottom of BT National 2 and fresh off a 22-9 defeat at the hands of GHK last Friday.

Howe won their previous encounter 64-38 at Duffus Park and although another 100 points may not be on offer at Aurs Road this week, Howe should take the points and with them another step towards a mid-table finish.

Perthshire can be thankful that the clubs below them in BT National 3 have been even less consistent than they have.

With four games left, Shire need to make sure that there are no slip-ups. They host Haddington tomorrow, having won 21-15 in the first meeting between the sides.
