Extra interest likely in display of major breeds
A display of 40 breeds will feature in the demonstration area at the sheep industry’s event of the year, NSA Scotsheep 2018.
All the major breeds will be on display in demonstrations being mounted by 28 sheep breed societies and a further 12 breeders will demonstrate their wares.
“The display of all the major breeds which play their part in the UK sheep industry’s stratified structure is always a popular attraction at NSA Scotsheep and this year will be no exception,” said event organiser Euan Emslie.
The breed displays are likely to come under closer scrutiny than ever as sheep farmers consider their options to improve the performance of their enterprises to meet the challenges of Brexit.
“Whether farmers are considering changing their breed or sire of choice or simply looking to improve the breeds they are using, NSA Scotsheep is the place to see all that is best in every breed,” Mr Emslie said.
The following breeds will be on display: Beltex, Blackface, Bleu du Maine, Bluefaced Leicester, Blue Texel, Border Leicester, British Rouge, Charollais, Cheviot, Dalesbred, Dorset Horn/Poll Dorset, Easycare, Hampshire Down, Herdwick, Kerry, Lleyn, Meatlinc, North Country Cheviot, North of England Mule, Rough Fell, Roussin, Ryeland, Scotch Mule, Shetland, Suffolk, Swaledale, Texel and Zwartbles.
The event will be held at Kings Arms Farm, Ballantrae, in Girvan on Wednesday May 30.
