Kelburne poised to take top place

-

The men’s National League programme reaches its conclusion this week with a number of issues already determined.

Kelburne, with a two-point lead over Grange, are likely to win the league phase as they and Grange are strong favourites to beat Uddingston and Inverleith.

Grove Menzieshill will be third irrespective of their result against Hillhead and victory will also confirm Hillhead in the relegation play-offs.

Wanderers still have a slim chance of avoiding the relegation play-offs but that is not entirely in their hands.

Edinburgh University are on the same points as Wanderers but with a superior goal difference.

They play fourth-placed Western Wildcats who are already assured of that position.

The likelihood is that Wanderers must beat Clydesdale, who are safe in fifth place.

Given Wanderers’ usual improved form in such difficult situations, victory is entirely possible and the matter will then be out of their hands.

Perthshire will surely bounce back from their last few disappointing results to beat Harris and come close to confirming third place in division 2.

Watsonians and Gordonians contest the single outright promotion place with the second team entering the division 1/2 play-offs on May 12 and 13.
