Is Brechin fairytale on the cards?

-

If Queen of the South are going to lie down and let Brechin City get their first win of the season on the last day then they have a funny way of showing it.

Despite dropping out of contention for the Premiership play-offs, Gary Naysmith’s men have beaten Morton and promotionchasing Dundee United in their last two fixtures.

And Glebe Park boss Darren Dods doesn’t expect them to suddenly decide to put their flip-flops on.

“They have had a great couple of results,” he said.

“You definitely wouldn’t say they are in holiday mode.

“They’ll still have the likes of Stephen Dobbie playing.

“If we are going to get a win we will have to earn it.

“It has been a tiring season for the players – mentally and physically.

“A lot of luck has gone against us as well. The players will give it their all and hopefully after one last push we’ll get the breaks tomorrow.

“It’s a while since we’ve taken the lead, rather than been chasing a game, and this would be a great time to do it.”

For Brechin to get their victory and Gary Fusco to score the winner would be the fairtyale story.

“Gary is retiring after this game because of his job,” said Dods. “Hopefully he can finish on a high. Mind you, he’s not scored in about 10 years!”

Euan Spark and Jordan Sinclair will miss out for the hosts.

Naysmith said: “I said to my assistant Dougie Anderson a few weeks ago that if Brechin had not got a win we would be the team that they have their last chance against. It has worked out that way and this will be a difficult game.”
