Pool and gym plan for caravan site
A Fife caravan park has submitted plans for a new leisure building.
Clayton Caravan Park near St Andrews has submitted a detailed planning application for a swimming pool, gym, changing rooms and a café, as well as new outdoor play equipment and an extension to the existing car parking provision.
The park, which has held the VisitScotland Five Star Holiday Park Award for a number of years, has 462 static holiday home pitches, 50 residential park homes, eight holiday homes available to hire and 30 seasonal touring pitches.
A second phase still to be completed will see a further 90 fully serviced static holiday home pitches added.
Owner Andrew Kennedy said he had identified a demand for leisure facilities on site and he believes it to be the “next logical step” in maintaining the park’s five-star status.
A spokesman for architects Montgomery Forgan Associates has urged Fife Council to consider the application “favourably”.
“It is considered that the provision of a leisure building and additional outdoor play equipment would both complement the existing tourist provision and assist in improving the marketability and appeal of the park,” he said.
“Fife Council recognises the value of tourism and tourist-related activities to the economy of the area.”
