Mossmorran community day

-

A Mossmorran operator is opening its doors to the public next weekend.

Shell UK is holding a community day on Saturday June 16.

Visitors will be given a bus tour of the Fife NGL Plant, near Cowdenbeath, including a stop at its operations control room.

After a security and safety briefing for access to the site, members of the public will be given an overview of what it does and its role in North Sea energy supply.

Fife NGL plant manager Teresa Waddington said: “The purpose of the day is to give residents from local communities, particularly those who are closest to our operations, a chance to see the plant in operation, find out more about us and to meet some of the people who work on site.”

Shell UK and ExxonMobil Chemical, which operates the neighbouring Fife Ethylene Plant, were given a final warning by environment agency Sepa over flaring in June last year.

ExxonMobil came in for criticism for further unplanned flaring in May, which was the result of a pump failure.

Flaring is part of the safety system at Mossmorran, but it often goes on for several days.

Places on the visit from 1.30pm to 4pm are limited and must be booked by emailing SI-ABE-Events@shell.com with the applicant’s name and area by 5pm on Wednesday.
